Abandonment - St Francis of Assisi prayer

Prayer of Saint Francis before the Crucifix

All highest, glorious, God,
Cast your light into the darkness of my heart.
Give me right faith, firm hope, perfect charity and profound humility.
With wisdom & perception, O Lord,
So that I may do what is truly your holy will.  Amen

Adoration - what Charles de Foucauld tells us - from "Live The Gospel"

"The Eucharist is not simply communion.. It is also the tabernacle and the monstrance, Jesus present on our altars... the true Emmanuel, true "God with us", showing himself at every hour in all parts of the world, to our gaze, to our adoration and our love."  - (The Gospel presented to the poor people of the Sahara.)

"Exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament are, together with the universal and burning charity for our neighbour and imitation of the hidden life of Our Lord, the characteristic note, special to the Little Brothers of the Sacred Heart" - (Future Fraternities).

"Faith... would wish to spend its whole life motionless at the foot of the tabernacle"
- (Retreat at Nazareth Nov 1897)

Abandonment - St Francis de Sales quote

"It is very good to mistrust ourselves, but what good will that do unless we place all our confidence in God and await his mercy?
And, even if we do not feel such confidence, we must not cease to make acts of confidence and say, 'Even though I have no feeling of confidence in you, I know that you are my God, that I am totally yours and have no hope except in your goodness; therefore I abandon myself entirely into your hands.' "
St Francis de Sales - from his Introduction to the Devout Life.

Prayer to obtain the intercession of Father Charles de Foucauld

God, Our Father,
You have called your servant, Charles de Foucauld to discover the infinite wonder of Your love in his contemplation of the life of Jesus at Nazareth.

For it was in the mystery of Your Son Jesus, made a person, who poured out His love till death in the hiddeness of Nazareth, so that rising from death He would send us the Holy Spirit as His first gift to us believers.

Grant that we may find in prayerfully reading the Holy Gospel, and adoration of the Eucharist the source of Christian life, without which we cannot be renewed to share in the mission of equitable love for all our sisters and brothers and our sharing in the realization of your plan for the salvation of all humanity.

We ask You particularly to listen to us as we pray through the intercession of your servant Br. Charles of Jesus, who so wanted to conform his life to your holy will, the (grace of:) (the favor of:).. that we place now in the heart of You Our Father. We ask in the name of Jesus Your well beloved Son, Our Lord.

Imprimatur: Viviers, the 1st of May 1995
